Thank you for your interest in the Case Neurology Residency program.
Our program has had a long-standing tradition of
preparing residents for successful and rewarding
careers in both academic and private practice neurology.
The Case Neurology Residency Program offers both:
1) A Four-Year
Categorical Program in Neurology that includes a PGY-1
year of internal medicine training, and
2) An Advanced Program
(PGY-2 through PYG-4 years).
For the Categorical Program, the Neurology PGY-1
year is identical to that of the first year residents in
the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Case. The
PGY-1 neurology residents are supervised by the Program
Directors both in Internal Medicine and in Neurology.
The Advanced Program is for applicants who are presently
doing or have completed a PGY-1 internal medicine or
transitional year; or who have a need to have their
PGY-1 year elsewhere. Of our (10) slots, (8) are
reserved for the Categorical Program and (2) for the
Advanced Program.
Our program was founded in 1961 by Dr. Foley. Through
the years, we have only had
four department chairs indicating remarkable stability
in the program. We
have a diverse faculty which covers the specialties of:
Autonomic disorders
Cerebrovascular disorders
Dementia
and cognitive disorders
Epilepsy
Movement disorders
Multiple sclerosis
Myasthenia gravis
Neuro-critical
care
Neuromuscular disorders
Neuro-oncology
Neuro-ophthalmology
At University Hospitals - Case Medical Center and the
VA Medical Center, our residents are exposed to a
diversity of patients. Our faculty are committed and
dedicated to training our residents through mentoring
and didactic teaching to fulfill their potential as
future neurologists.
As a testament to the success of our program, our
residents have done fellowship
training either at Case or at other major institutions,
which in recent years have included Harvard, Cornell,
the University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins, and UCSF.
Faculty and residents of our program have gone on to
take important roles in clinical neurology, including Chancellor of UCSF,
Dean of Harvard Medical School,
and Chairmen of Neurology at Johns
Hopkins, Bowman Gray, St. Louis University and the University of Arkansas.
From this site, you can learn
about the clinical rotations, the teaching curriculum and conferences, and
the outpatient clinics. The clinical centers and facilities are described
in detail. Information regarding house staff stipends and benefits, and the residency
application and interview procedure are also included.
